Hey there, and welcome to Kerosene Magazine. I appreciate you being here more than I can say, especially if you’ve made it to my little corner of the website, where I’ve come to sentimentally ramble about what this all means to me and what brought me here.
This magazine was created to combine my life’s greatest passions, writing and music. While I’ve called myself a writer since around second grade when I wrote my classmates into notebook-paper fairy tales, the world of music is one that has opened up to me more recently.
With encouragement of my amazing boyfriend Grant, and the electronic kit his dad keeps in their garage, I picked up the drums as a hobby to combat quarantine stir-craziness in 2020. I had never dreamed that I could immerse myself further into the music I adored by learning an instrument, but there I was. What was even crazier was becoming the drummer for a band when we finally arrived on campus at Loyola Marymount University. Playing alongside Grant and our bandmate and best friend Stella Katona are some of my life’s most cherished memories. Through those backyard and dive bar concerts, I met some incredible friends and musicians that have become the inspiration for this very magazine.
What Kerosene Magazine is, at its core, is a platform for fellow music lovers to discover the incredible bands, musicians, artists, photographers, and writers that make up the underground scenes of Los Angeles and beyond. I deeply love and care about their music that I’ve experienced live and in recordings, and my goal is for that to translate to countless others through my writing and reporting. I want to be the Kerosene that brightens the flame of the artists around me, and bring them that much closer to their imminent explosion into fame. Please forgive me for the terrible metaphors.
Thank you so much to all my friends and family, whom without their support this would never be possible. Thank you to Grant, for bringing me into your world and encouraging me to make it my own. Thank you to Stella for being my biggest cheerleader. Thank you to Tyler Roland for your fearless editing and inspiration. Thank you to Nuclēaria for being my first interview subjects and fantastic friends. Thank you, with my whole entire heart, to everyone who reads my silly little writings and makes this possible.
